Samsonite Curv®, what is it?

Introduced in 2007, Curv is a material designed to make luggage stronger and more flexible, essentially a woven and compressed polypropylene. To produce this material, polypropylene grains are melted to form a sheet that is then cut into thin strips. Next, the manufacturer stretches these strips and weaves them together to create a net. The nets are then stacked on top of each other, heated and put under pressure. This process compresses several layers of woven polypropylene into a thin sheet that forms the hard shell of some Samsonite suitcases.

Advantages

Here are some reasons why we think Curv is one of the best luggage materials around:

  • Durable: it is also flexible and strong, which means your luggage will keep its shape even after being tossed around in airport luggage carousels.
  • Water-resistant: the combination of a water-repellent exterior shell and a waterproof interior lining means that your luggage will stay dry even if it gets wet or dirty outside.
  • Impact-resistant: it is five times stronger than conventional polypropylene shells. This means that your luggage can withstand the most extreme conditions and remain intact.
  • Extremely light: the Samsonite C-Lite check-in trolley (75cm) only weighs 2.9 kg!
  • The Curv® models you can find on our website are C-Lite, Lite-Cube and Major-Lite (NEW).
